Notice of intent to apply in accordance with federal statute: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier is required to inform our community and our stakeholders regarding our intent to apply to the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) Grant program. We are applying for funding for the following clubs: the Baldwin Elementary School Club, Woodville Elementary School Club, and the Hazel Grove Elementary School Club in Habersham County, the Chicopee Woods Elementary Club in Gainesville, and the Positive Place 1 Club located in the New Holland Knowledge Academy school in Gainesville. The 21st CCLC is a federal program intended to support the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. The program helps students meet state and local academic standards in core academic subjects, such as math and reading, offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs, and offers literacy and other educational services to families of participating children. At this time, we would like to invite Baldwin Elementary, Hazel Grove Elementary, Woodville Elementary, Chicopee Woods Elementary and New Holland Knowledge Academy parents, students, and teachers to complete a short survey. All individuals interested in completing the survey should contact Rachael Burns at rburns@bgclanier.org. This survey will provide us with information to help determine the needs of the community. All information provided will directly inform the development of our 21st CCLC grant program plan.
21st Century programming aligns with our three key outcome areas: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Character & Citizenship. The 21st Century funding allows us to provide dedicated activities focused around each of our outcome areas and aimed at developing kids who leave the Clubs as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
21st Century Community Learning Centers also aim to involve the families of our members. By providing education to family members, our members’ success is nurtured even after they leave the Club.
The benefits the children in our community have experienced due to the 21st Century Community Learning Centers are astounding. The goal of 21st Century Community Learning Centers and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier for the next 5 years will be to meet state and local academic standards in core academic subjects such as reading and math, offer students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs, and offer literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.
